The Toronto Zoo...

The Toronto Zoo has evolved into a progressive global leader in conservation efforts to save endangered species and their habitats.
The Toronto Zoo continues to invest in its depth of conservation, scientific, wildlife care programs, and highly qualified staff talent. One of the world’s most honoured and acclaimed institutions, this Toronto centrepiece has 5,000 animals representing more than 450 species. Building on a base of approximately 1.3 million annual visitors, the Zoo is keen to maintain its public engagement and to continue to deliver a unique wildlife experience that inspires people to love, respect and protect wildlife and wild spaces.
Working closely with the Board of Management and staff, the CEO will provide visionary leadership to effect a transformation that is consistent with the vision, long-term plans and annual goals of the Zoo. Early priorities will be to continue with the implementation of the 5-year strategic plan and work towards the long-term goals set out in the Zoo’s Master Plan. The new CEO will also lead the reorganization of fundraising activities (a new Foundation), oversee the construction and renovation of new and existing facilities, and raise the profile of the Zoo locally, nationally, and internationally.
As a conservation-minded organization, the Zoo embodies its values in the way it operates. This will continue to be a priority in the leadership of the organization and provides an opportunity for a visionary leader to champion the creative advancement of the organization.
As the ideal candidate for the position of CEO, you have spent the last ten years of your career in a leadership role with emphasis on community and stakeholder partnerships and interaction. You understand the importance of Zoo conservation, education, animal welfare, and research work, and the need to balance these mandates with the business demands of a high profile multifaceted organization. Your executive presence motivates staff and inspires support both internally and externally, and you enjoy the external facing aspects of this public CEO role. Above all, you believe deeply in the value of the Toronto Zoo and would relish the opportunity to take the organization to the next phase in its development.
