Chief Executive Officer

Mid-America Science Museum is seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join the organisation as Chief Executive Officer, leading one of Arkansas’ most respected educational and cultural institutions through its next phase of growth.

About the role

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership across Mid-America Science Museum’s two-site operation, comprising its flagship science centre campus and Mystic Ozark, an immersive attraction located within Hot Springs National Park.

The CEO will serve as the organisation’s primary ambassador, fundraiser and strategic leader, working closely with the Board, staff, donors, educators, community leaders and corporate partners to strengthen the Museum’s educational impact, visitor experience and long-term sustainability.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing strategic direction and leadership for the Museum
• Working with the Board of Trustees to develop organisational goals and priorities
• Overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, audits and fiscal management
• Leading fundraising and revenue diversification, including major gifts, foundation support, corporate sponsorships and annual giving
• Acting as the Museum’s primary spokesperson and community ambassador
• Developing partnerships and collaborations across Arkansas and beyond
• Supporting staff development and fostering a positive, collaborative organisational culture
• Enhancing the visitor experience and strengthening community engagement
• Overseeing the continued development of both Mid-America Science Museum and Mystic Ozark
• Ensuring the long-term financial sustainability and impact of the organisation

Founded in 1979, Mid-America Science Museum welcomes approximately 125,000 visitors each year and reaches more than 17,000 students through its educational programmes and outreach. The Museum has also recently earned accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums.

About you

The Museum is looking for an accomplished executive leader with the strategic, financial and relationship-building skills required to lead a complex cultural and educational organisation.

Candidates should bring:

• Proven executive leadership experience
• Demonstrated success in fundraising and external relations
• Strong financial and operational management skills
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
• The ability to work effectively with a Board, staff, donors, partners and the wider community
• A collaborative leadership style and the ability to support and develop teams

Experience within a museum, science centre, tourism organisation, destination attraction, educational institution, park or a related environment is preferred.
