Head Of Exhibitions and Productions

London Museum is seeking a Head of Exhibitions & Productions to lead the development and delivery of a world-class exhibitions programme as part of its landmark transformation to Smithfield. The successful candidate will oversee a rolling programme of major exhibitions, immersive experiences and installations, helping shape one of Europe's most significant cultural projects ahead of the museum's phased opening in 2026 and 2028.

The museum has embarked on an extraordinary journey to create a new museum for London. The museum will sit in atmospheric former market buildings – over 30,000 sqm – at the heart of one of the capital’s most historic quarters. The New Museum project will transform the museum, Smithfield and the City of London, creating a new cultural quarter for London.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a new high-impact Exhibitions and Productions team and play a central role in one of Europe’s largest cultural projects.

In November 2026, the new London Museum will open Phase 1 and will have a series of programmable spaces and spotlight exhibitions, including the Vaults, hosting immersive exhibitions and experiences within its atmospheric labyrinth.

When Phase 2 opens in 2028, the Museum will have a world-class and state-of-the-art Special Exhibitions space as well as a series of diverse and inspiring programmable spaces for exhibitions, performance, installations and commissions.

About the role

We now seek a bold and driven Head of Exhibitions & Productions to steer the exhibitions strategy and delivery and play a lead role in realising our ambition to be one of London’s top cultural destinations. This exceptional individual will be proactive, ambitious, highly organised and have a strong track record in the development, creation and delivery of major exhibitions.

This role is crucial, not only for the Museum, but also for cementing Smithfield as a new cultural quarter. The successful candidate will play an integral role in building a new team and transforming our Special Exhibitions programme and the delivery of immersive experiences, installations, commissions and changing displays across our campus of buildings at Smithfield and Docklands.

The role will lead the planning, development, delivery, production and management of a compelling five-year rolling programme of exhibitions and the overarching project management view of all other programmable spaces at Smithfield and Docklands. This role is critical in the delivery of the future public programme in this once-in-a-generation project and would suit an excellent leader who is driven, organised and creative with an impeccable eye for detail.
